Educational Level: Upper undergraduate, Bachelor
Credit Hours: 3 Credits
Instructor: Dr. Ignatius Meimaris

Course Description:

This course will explore the concepts of business and missions and how the two interrelate in today’s world. It will include the theology, cross-cultural aspects, practical challenges of utilising business as mission and the issues as well as the benefits that arise from attempting to incorporate the two.

How This Course Benefits Students:

As the concept of “Business as Mission” evolves in the last two plus decades, there have been several perspectives as to what it means. The student who feels called to engage in this venue or still explores possibilities of involvement will be able to clarify their view and to form their own understanding as to how they can utilise business in the world of missions. The MARKETPLACE MINISTRY Occasional Paper No. 40 of the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization p.9 quoting R. Paul Stevens states that “Business as Mission, while again involving a spectrum of views, by the very name, sees business itself, as a form of mission in itself not merely a means to mission.”

Why This Course Is Important:

This course will give the student a holistic approach to the importance of any type of business in the missional endeavour, and the reality that God is very involved in the marketplace and eager to see the salvation through Christ in the lives of people no matter where the student happens to be at work.

Course Description:

Human resources professionals are strategic partners in managing organizations and in complying with the law. Students will focus on training strategies implemented by HR departments to comply with the law. An additional focus will be on the ethical dilemmas faced by HR professionals.

How This Course Benefits Students:

HR professionals are increasingly responsible for the management of the talent within an organization, both to make sure that they do not violate the law, but to recruit and pay those who represent an organization. They are usually part of creating the mission and ethical code within an organization and enforcing it.

Why This Course Is Important:

Organizations rely on HR departments to recruit and train their greatest asset: their employees. HR professionals have legal obligations to an organization and are called upon to address a myriad of ethical situations faced by employees within an organization. This course will provide students with the opportunity to evaluate the role of human resources within an organization.
