Educational Level: Graduate, Master
Credit Hours: 3 Credits
Instructor: Dr. Getachew Demisse
Course Description
an introduction to the concepts underlying geospatial information systems (GIS). The lecture portion of the course is designed to provide students with foundational knowledge about the principles of GIS in analytical geo-spatial information and also expose them to how geographic information can be used to answer questions and solve real world problems. The laboratory component of the class is designed to complement the lecture material and provide students with practical experience applying the concepts discussed in lecture by executing GIS procedures within open source GIS software package. How This Course Benefits Students
Prepares students to apply cutting-edge GIS technology skills to solve real-world problems. This course helps students visualize local, regional, and global data and make connections to their own environment. The course also guides students through a standard process for investigating a problem using GIS, and at the end of the course students will be able prepare a GIS map presentation on a topic of interest. Why This Course Is Important
Geo-informatics has exciting functionalities for missional practices. In this course, student will gain the necessary knowledge and skills for efficient use of geographic information technology (GIS) for getting data, storing data, analyzing data and presenting data or information in an efficient way for missional practices in the mission of God. This course is a pre-requisite for other advanced courses in geospatial technology. By taking this course, students will be ready to manage other advanced courses and also start in using the technology in their day today activity.- Professor: Getachew Demisse
